MicoNAS Introduces Arduino
MicroNAS will offer free Arduino workshops as of Oct 1, 2011 as part of our educational mission to help bridge the IT gap in marginalized communities. We are NO LONGER MICRONAS. We are now PIN13 Protospace: http://www.pin13lab.com
Arduino is an open-source single-board microcontroller designed to make the process of using electronics in multidisciplinary areas including arts and entertainment projects more accessible.
Arduino is a very popular open source platform with hundreds of freely available resources and shared projects that can be used as examples and re-mixed to support new Arduino projects.
Arduino projects range from complex robotics, telecommunication, to blinking LEDs and intelligent toys. Arduino can help simplify entry into the world of microelectronics by incorporating simple to understand and replicate fun projects.
Arduino can be programmed from a PC via a USB connection using a C-based free integrated developmet environment called Sketch.

IT Training Center Launched in Ghour Mazra’ah
Part of MicroNAS’s mission is to be an enabler for IT culture in disadvantaged communities. We bring partners together and provide the needed vision and technical know how. With funding from UMNIAH and with the space provided by Zikra, Hazim Bitar setup an IT training facility and internet cafe, and possibly and IT incubator in Ghour Mazra’ah, the first of its kind in the village.
Hazim Bitar of MicroNAS provided requirements and specification, network design, and oversight for the implementation of the first IT center in Ghour Mazra’ah, issued call for quotations, interviewed bidders, and selected winning bid and ensured successful completion of project.
The IT center, which was originally a farm house, now includes power cabling and CAT 6 cabling in every work room, and power and CAT 6 outlets, wal-mounted network rack cabinet, router, switch, wifi, firewall, air conditioner, ADSL internet, shared multi-purpose printer, UPS, Windows 2008 compute server, workstations, centralized power switch, video projector, etc.
The computers were connected to the server, installed and configured for workshop setting, with simple maintenance procedures, imagine procedures, user accounts, security, etc.

Marka Refugee Camp – Scratch Programming & Animation Workshop – Jordan Feb-2010
Workshop: Classrom Network Design & Maintenenace
Using the computer lab at UNRWA Women Program/CDO at the Jarash refugee camp as real world example, 3 volunteer network administrators and MicroNAS volunteers have participated in a practical workshop to help transform an environment infected with viruses, Trojans, and misconfiguration software, and network issues into a fully operational and secure network using available freeware tools and borrowing from industry best practices. The three latest volunteers of MicroNAS are Mr. Ismail Siam, Ms. Tamam Abuzahra, Mr. Fayegh Gaitha, all residents of the Jarash/Gaza refugee camp. Their experience is summarized in this case study.
